Leading national government relations firm Barton Deakin, part of the STW Group, continues to expand its national footprint, this week opening its doors in WA to service the broader business community in the West.

The first time a national, specialist Government Relations firm has set up in the State, the Barton Deakin WA office will be headed up by Eacham Curry as Managing Director, bringing nearly 20 years of professional government experience to the firm.

A former Chief of Staff across several ministries in the Barnett Government from 2008 to 2013, Curry previously worked as a senior campaign coordinator with the Liberal Party’s Federal Secretariat, where he managed the Campaign Support Unit for the 2007 Federal Election. He was also chief of staff and senior adviser for many years in the Howard Government in the Health and Ageing, Defence, Veterans’ Affairs and Family and Community Services portfolios.

Curry said Barton Deakin had opted to open in Perth in “recognition of WA’s increasingly important role in the nation’s economy, one that stretches well beyond the resources sector”.

“Barton Deakin will bring national thinking in its approach to help all businesses in WA that have exposure to government decisions,” he explained.

“WA is a diversified economy, and one that has a vital role to play in the nation’s future. We’ll be aiming to help these organisations find a way to do best business with government as the State continues its pattern of growth.”

Curry said Barton Deakin would focus on a range of industry sectors in WA, including, but not limited to Health, ICT and Infrastructure.
Barton Deakin’s CEO and Managing Director Matthew Hingerty said the expansion was part of the firm’s strategy to become a “truly national, highly influential government relations organisation”.

“Eacham has a highly-sought after mix of capability; proven political experience and business acumen,” he said. “We’re thrilled to have him on our growing team to help business across the state work effectively with government, and have no doubt his commitment to the Coalition teamed with his broad experience will be in high demand.”

Curry joins a raft of political heavyweights at Barton Deakin including founder Peter Collins (former NSW Opposition Leader) and Grahame Morris (former chief of staff to Prime Minister John Howard) at the firm, Australia’s leading government relations agency openly aligned with the Liberal-National Coalition at both State and Federal levels. Barton Deakin was launched in Sydney in 2009, and has since expanded to Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra.
